The San Francisco 49ers were stacked last season and a number of different quarterbacks could have succeeded in their offense. Unfortunately for Alex Smith, he got the short end of the stick and lost his starting spot to Colin Kaepernick. That may have been the smart move, but Smith will show his worth for the Kansas City Chiefs in the upcoming NFL season.
You can say that the Chiefs have not been the best team in the league over the last few years, but they will have Andy Reid on the sidelines and Smith as the starting QB. These were not the only changes to the team, but they were very major ones.
In the time that Smith did play last year, he threw for 1,737 yards, 13 touchdowns and five interception.
Jim Harbaugh definitely resurrected his career, but Smith still performed. I always thought he was sort of a bust just because of the 49ers’ success with Smith as the quarterback. However, Smith has been a great QB over the last two years. In the 10 games that he played last year, he did complete 70.2 percent of his passes. Not many quarterbacks could have completed passes at the rate that Smith did last season with the 49ers or any other team for that matter.
He is 29 years old and he still has a long career in this league.
The Chiefs may not make the playoffs this year–coming off of a 2-14 record–but Smith will make them a much better team and he will show his worth in his first season with Kansas City.
