NFL Preseason: Tennessee Titans’ Loss to Minnesota Vikings Shows Difficulty of Cut Decisions
The Tennessee Titans may have lost their final preseason game at the very end to a late field goal by the Minnesota Vikings, but they got what they wanted out of the game. Final cuts are approaching quickly, and the loss made some decisions easier and some decisions much harder.
I know every Tennessee sports radio host and Titans sports writer is high on Tommie Campbell, but after his performance against the Vikings, I think he should be cut. I love his work ethic and his athleticism, but he’s just missing something that most cornerbacks in the NFL have.
Campbell completely missed on defending a crucial touchdown late in the game. I don’t know if it was a mental lapse or what, but that can be the difference between going to the playoffs or not in the regular season.
Jack Doyle is another player who I want the Titans to keep, but they should cut. They should try desperately to keep him on their practice squad though, because he will be a great NFL player in the future.
Jackie Battle had a great showing against the Vikings and should not be cut. He powered through the defense, and should the worst happen to Shonn Greene or Chris Johnson, he would be able to carry some of the load for the Titans.
The Titans have so many talented receivers on their team. Kenny Britt, Kendall Wright, Justin Hunter, Nate Washington and Damian Williams will definitely make the team. Unfortunately, that doesn’t leave room for someone like Michael Preston. After his game against the Vikings, the Titans need to find a way to keep Preston, or they will regret it in the future.
Unfortunately, a lot of extremely talented players will have to be cut before the Titans have their final 53-man roster.
