New Orleans Saints Roster Cuts: Travaris Cadet is on the Roster Bubble
With NFL teams finalizing their 53-man rosters today, there will no doubt be some familiar faces that will be gone from each team. For the New Orleans Saints, one player might not be in the black and gold next season. Running back Travaris Cadet has not had the strongest preseason and could be a candidate to be cut from the team.
After having a stellar preseason last year, Cadet earned a roster spot as the fifth running back and special teams’ ace.
This season, the Saints are set with Mark Ingram, Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles as the primary ball carriers, but they are looking to have a fourth running back for insurance. Many thought that Cadet would simply just get take the no. 4 running back position, but with the emergence of Khiry Robinson, Cadet’s roster spot could be in jeopardy.
Robinson has been great for the Saints and in the preseason finale, he rushed for 115 yards on 22 carries. Furthermore, Robinson even caught six passes for 50 yards in a 24-21 loss against the Miami Dolphins. Robinson’s play is a bit ironic because he is playing as well as Cadet did last preseason, but now Cadet could actually lose his roster spot to him.
One thing that might secure a roster spot for Cadet is his versatility. If the Saints do keep both him and Robinson, Cadet will likely be a deep in the wide receivers depth chart, and get most of his playing time on the special teams, perhaps in the return game.
Cadet may have already decided his fate with his lackluster preseason, but if the Saints keep him around, you can be sure that he will not blow the opportunity.
