As the deadline for final roster cuts quickly approaches, the New Orleans Saints will have some difficult decisions to make. One thing the Saints will have to decide is the future of wide receiver Preston Parker.
Parker shined throughout the preseason and many think he did enough to warrant a roster spot. However, the Saints are incredibly deep at wide receiver, and despite Joe Morgan’s ACL tear, he should have more than enough at the position.
Parker has had many great games this preseason and has proven that he can be a well-rounded and very reliable wide receiver. In the Saints’ last preseason game, Parker only had two catches, but they were for 41 yards, including a 22-yard reception.
Parker has shown that he can be a deep threat and make the most out of limited receptions. However, the main thing that could earn Parker a roster spot is his return skills.
Since the Saints are so stacked at wide receiver, if a player wants to make the team, he will have to bring more to the table. Parker has been excellent in the return game for the Saints, and his ability to maintain great field position could help get him one of the 53 roster spots on the Saints.
Furthermore, if the Saints do keep Parker, not only will he be great on special teams, but he will also be a great insurance policy in case another wide receiver goes down with injury.
In the end, I think the Saints will keep Parker because he offers a lot more than just receiving talent and could be a great weapon for the team to have on their depth chart.
