Baltimore Ravens Rumors: Dennis Pitta To Return By Week 9?

Dennis Pitta

Mark J. Rebilas-USA Today Sports

It might be a long-shot, but the Baltimore Ravens are hoping for the best when it comes to Dennis Pitta. The tight end is of course currently recovering after surgery to put his hip back in place following a dislocation this preseason. Initially, it was thought that Pitta would be lost for the season, but now the Ravens have given him the option to return by placing him on the injured reserve/recall list. This designation means that the TE would be eligible to return in week nine.

It’s unclear at this point if the move to place Pitta on the IR/RL is just wishful thinking or if the team has been given a good report from doctors that suggests the TE might be healthy enough to go later this season?

Regardless of what the case is, Pitta’s return is the last thing on the Ravens’ mind as they near the start of their 2013 season. Baltimore is set to square off against the Denver Broncos in a playoff rematch from last January. The game is one that will down history for both franchises, and for two very different reasons. The Ravens of course pulled out a thriller to send themselves on to the AFC Championship game and eventually to a win in the Super Bowl.

The 2013 Ravens will look a lot different following the departures of numerous key players from last year’s championship squad, but the offense remains largely intact. If Pitta is able to return for the stretch run, it could do wonders for the team’s repeat chances.
