Baltimore Ravens Rumors: Ed Dickson Expected To Play Week 1 Against Denver Broncos

The defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens will get a nice boost in their opening night matchup against the Denver Broncos. That boost is named Ed Dickson.

Going into the training camp the tight end position was considered a strength for the Ravens. All of a sudden Dennis Pitta dislocates his hip and now he’s out for an extended period of time (possibly the entire season). Dickson was the next man up as he was looking more than capable to be the main receiving tight end. Before you know it Dickson suffers a slight hamstring tear which put him out of action for the entire preseason.

Dickson’s return is great news for the Ravens who have had anything but consistent play from the tight ends this preseason. Visanthe Schiancoe was brought in, but he didn’t even make it past the first round of cuts. Dallas Clark was brought in also, but he certainly hasn’t looked like his old self.

Although Dickson hasn’t exactly been the model of consistency himself, his return will help the Ravens offense. Dickson’s return also will increase the chances of an upset win in Denver tomorrow. After getting destroyed by the long ball in last year’s Divisional playoff game, I fully expect Denver to sell out to prevent the deep stuff. Guys like Dickson, Clark, and Brandon Stokley will have to step up on shorter/intermediate routes over the middle.

Personally, I think Dickson could have an awesome year, that is assuming he can stay healthy. 2013 is a contract year for Mr. Dickson. Time to step it up, dude.
