Seattle Seahawks Rumors: Percy Harvin Could Sit Out Entire Regular Season

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

When the Seattle Seahawks traded for former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin, the football world was shaken up a bit as an NFC powerhouse had just gotten even stronger. There is nobody else like Harvin in all of the NFL. He possesses the speed, quickness, agility and flat out play-making skills that can not be matched. He has a nose for the end zone.

Unfortunately, Harvin may not be seeing much of the end zone — if at all — this season. After having to undergo hip surgery before training camp, Harvin’s status for a return remains up in the air, and quite frankly, in doubt.

Head coach Pete Carroll said on a radio interview on Tuesday that everything as far as his recovery is going well at the moment and that he is progressing nicely. That, for certain, is the good news.

The bad news is, according to Seattle Times writer Bob Condotta, that there is absolutely zero timetable for a return. There is no guesses, no feelings and no possibilities as of this moment. Still in the early stages of the recovery, Harvin might even be forced to sit out all season if he has to.

It’s not all bad news for the Seahawks, though, as second year pro Russell Wilson has a year behind him and continues to grow as an NFL quarterback. With one of the best rushing attacks in the league featuring Marshawn Lynch and a bit of Wilson here and there, the Seahawks’ offense seems to be alright for the time being.

Wideouts Golden Tate and Sidney Rice will have to continue to step up in Harvin’s absence and take a big leap forward in how active they are on offense. Wilson needs all the help he can get if he wants to further his development and reach his highest potential. The talent is there in Seattle despite Harvin not being on the field, but the team simply has to execute flawlessly in the mean time.
