It seems almost surreal that the NFL season will soon start again. The defending Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens open up on the road against the Denver Broncos, a team they beat in dramatic fashion in last year’s double-overtime Divisional Round instant classic. I
t took a miracle 70-yard touchdown pass from Joe Flacco to Jacoby Jones and a Corey Graham interception of Peyton Manning to set up the game-winning field goal for the Ravens. The Ravens’ momentum carried them past the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers all the way to their second Lombardi Trophy in franchise history.
What could have been for the Broncos?
Call me crazy, but I like the Ravens to steal another one in Denver. Newcomer Elvis Dumervil gets to play against his former team that he feels did him wrong. Dumervil should be in full on revenge mode on Thursday Night (I’m seeing two or three sacks). Manning will still do damage though, let’s not kid ourselves — 24 is the key number.
If the Ravens can keep the Broncos in that 20-24 point range, then they’ll have a shot.
The loss of Von Miller due to suspension will be devastating for the Broncos here. With Dumervil now on the other side and no Miller, Flacco should have some time to throw. Say what you will about Flacco, but when this dude has time, he’ll carve up anybody. I’m sure if I should be excited or sad about no Champ Bailey, seeing as Torrey Smith turned him ‘old’ in last year’s playoff game.
It’s going to be close, but I like the Ravens to break the heart of the Broncos one more time. Ravens 27 — Broncos 24
