New York Jets fan favorite Leon Washington might return to his former team. According to Adam Caplan’s Twitter account:

Washington may be returning to the Jets as they try to make their running game relevant with the likes of Bilal Powell, Chris Ivory and the suspended Mike Goodson. Washington would add depth, experience, and versatility with a franchise he had the most success with.

Washington was with the Jets from 2006-2009, where he totaled 1,782 rushing yards, 13 rushing touchdowns, 969 reception yards, two receiving touchdowns, 2,986 kick return yards and four kick return touchdowns. After spending the last three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, his role was diminished.

Now that he has been released by the New England Patriots, it only make sense to go where he was most successful and may have never have been traded if he did not get injured in 2009. The Jets may take their time in re-signing Washington because if they wait until after Week 1 to sign him, his salary wouldn’t be guaranteed.

Jets nation would gladly see Washington back in the green and white with his explosiveness and solid locker room presence. Do you think the Jets will wait after Week 1 to sign Washington, or sign him before so not to lose him to another team?
