There was plenty of hype surrounding the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens with the way things turned out during their playoff matchup last January. However, it’s safe to say nobody could have predicted the outcome of this game to turn out this way–especially when it comes to Peyton Manning.

The future Hall of Fame quarterback displayed one of the best games of his career on opening night to help the Broncos get off to a solid start for the 2013 season by throwing for not one, not two–but seven touchdown passes against the Ravens on Thursday to go along with 462 passing yards. After trailing 17-14 at halftime, Denver looked like they were going to be in for an intense battle for the second half, but Manning simply took over the game in the second half by throwing five touchdown passes to go along with his two in the first half to give help Denver pull off the impressive 49-27 win.

After signing Wes Welker during the offseason, it was no secret the Broncos contained one of the most dangerous groups of wide receivers on offense, but to predict seven touchdown passes from Manning on opening night would have been absurd to even consider. Not only did Welker finish the game with two touchdown catches from Manning in his Bronco debut, but Julius Thomas and Demaryus Thomas each caught two touchdown passes of their own.

The seventh touchdown pass–a 28-yard catch by Andre Caldwell in the third quarter.

Obviously, Manning won’t be posting these types of numbers on a weekly basis, but this may be a strong indication he could be in for his best NFL season yet. Everybody knew the Broncos were anxious for a re-match against the Ravens–but what took place in Denver on Thursday night was just simply ridiculous.

For any fantasy owners unlucky enough to be playing Manning this week–sorry about your first loss of the fantasy football season.
