The Kansas City Chiefs are finally in the hands of a proven quarterback in 2013. Although they are coming off an embarrassing 2-14 season, the Chiefs have quarterback Alex Smith as the newest addition to the offense and with a healthy Dwayne Bowe and Donnie Avery to throw to, he will have no shortage of targets. Jamaal Charles had a solid comeback season in 2012 as he returned from a leg injury that he suffered in 2011. Charles finished the 2012 season with 1,509 yards and five touchdowns.
On the other side of the field, the Jacksonville Jaguars were also one of the worst teams in the league in 2012. Also finishing 2-14, the Jaguars had some bad luck with the injury of Maurice Jones-Drew and the unfortunate inconsistency at the quarterback position. Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne both saw time at QB in 2012, but neither performed well and it looks like that will be the weakness of the offense once again with Gabbert starting. He has just 3,200 yards of passing yards through his first two seasons.
The Jacksonville Jaguars had one of the worst overall defenses in 2012. Middle linebacker Paul Posluszny is the bright spot on that side of the ball and will likely be the leader of this squad once again in 2013. Kansas City rolled out a middle-of-the-pack defense in 2012, allowing 26.6 points and 356 yards per contest. This could be a boring, low scoring affair from both teams who had a combined record of 4-28 last season.
PREDICTION: Chiefs 20, Jaguars 13
