Baltimore Ravens Rumors: Team To Take A Look At Josh Cribbs?

Josh Cribbs

The bad news for Baltimore Ravens fans, besides losing a game the Denver Broncos that was winnable, had a few things gone differently, is that Jacoby Jones will be out if action for four to six weeks from a sprained MCL. The injury was caused by teammate Brnyden Trawick, who wasn’t looking as he back pedaled right into Jones on a punt. Jones was a starting receiver and the main kick/punt returner, and his absence will be felt, to say the least.

According to Ravens insider Aaron Wilson, the team is looking at some free agent receivers still on the market. Names like Brandon Lloyd, Austin Collie and Laurent Robinson come to mind, but a name the Ravens should go after, in my opinion, is Joshua Cribbs. I’ve said for a while that Jones’ true value is that of a game changing kick returner, although he was looking pretty good in the passing game on Thursday night.

As a returner, Jones was part of a group I like to call, “If I’m a fan of an opposing team and this guy is running a kick back, I’m crapping my pants,” club. Other guys in this elite group are Devin Hester, Patrick Peterson, Ted Ginn, Darren Sproles, Trindan Holliday and, of course, Cribbs. Am I missing anyone?

After Jones was hurt, he was replaced by Bernard Pierce as the KR and Lardarius Webb as the PR. Pierce isn’t scaring anyone and neither is Webb, who just returned from an ACL tear. Luckily, every single kickoff sailed out of the end zone in the thin Denver air. Webb didn’t have too many opportunities to return punts, but that still didn’t stop my crazy father from yelling about it. He had nowhere to go, old man.

Cribbs would be a good fit in Baltimore, as he could definitely replace the spark and the fear that Jones provided; I know that he terrified many when he was with the Cleveland Browns. I’m not sure if Cribbs will actually be brought in, but he should at least be in the conversation.
