After being traded before the 2013 NFL Draft, Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis will return to the field for the first time since tearing his ACL in week three of last season. By some stroke of luck the Buccaneers get to play Revis’ last team the New York Jets Week 1 and he is telling all of what he remembers in how to beat his former team.
With “Revis Island” moving to Tampa, he should shut down whomever plays as the No. 1 receiver for the Jets no matter if it is Stephen Hill or Santonio Holmes. This will mainly be because Revis will bait rookie quarterback Geno Smith into making unwise throws all game long and despite this recovery from this knee injury he should flourish against a mediocre at best offense.
Also with adding Revis, the Buccaneers’ secondary becomes instantly incredible and one of the best in the league as they added Dashon Goldson this off-season and they did draft safety Mark Barron last year via the NFL draft. If second-year cornerback Leonard Johnson can develop into a star in 2013, this secondary could be a force of havoc for years to come and it will make teams run the ball early and often against this young Buccaneers team.
All and all, it should be interesting to see what Darrelle Revis does for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against his former team, the New York Jets, back where he used to dominate for the Jets and shut down half of the field.
