5 Reasons the Buffalo Bills will Suck in 2013

T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills currently have the longest playoff drought in the NFL. The last time the Bills were in the postseason, Bill Clinton was our President and the world was celebrating a new millennium.

It was January 8, 2000 and the game would be known as the "Music City Miracle." After the Bills took a 16-15 lead over the Tennessee Titans with 16 seconds left in the game, Frank Wycheck threw a lateral pass to Kevin Dyson. Dyson ran 75 yards down the field for the winning touchdown.

Fans in Western New York still argue the pass was a forward lateral. Nevertheless, the play stood and the Titans won the game. Little did the fans know they wouldn't see their team in the playoffs for at least 13 years. That's where we stand right now.

Things have changed in the Bills organization, however. There's a new coaching staff to lead the team. Doug Marrone will try to do what the previous five coaches have been unable to do -- lead them to the playoffs. The former Syracuse coach takes over for Chan Gailey. In three seasons with the Bills, Gailey had a record of 16-32.

Marrone isn't the reason fans are excited for the 2013 season, though. Rookie quarterback E.J. Manuel has fans hoping for the best. The Florida State quarterback was taken in the first round by the Bills and analyst around the country are excited about his upside and what he brings to the table.

Should fans be excited and expect great things this year from the Bills? Is this the year the playoff drought ends? Unfortunately for Bills fans, they are going to have to wait at least one more year for the playoffs. Here's a list of five reasons the Bills won't be any good this year.

5. Rookie Quarterbacks

It's not very often that a team has rookies as their top two quarterback positions, but that's what the Bills have. With E.J. Manuel getting all the attention, however, it was Jeff Tuel who almost got the start against New England. This undrafted rookie will be backing up Manuel unless Buffalo tries grabbing another quarterback. This combination could be great in the years to come, but I wouldn't expect it to happen in 2013.

4. Offensive Line

Head Coach Doug Marrone complained about the offensive line during training camp this year. Although the offensive line seems to be a bit better this year with Eric Wood and Cordy Glenn. Left guard and right tackle are two positions that could cause problems for the Bills. Last year, the offensive line had problems due to injuries, and Ryan Fitzpatrick's play reflected this.

3. New System

Unfortunately when a coaching staff joins a bad team, it usually takes some time for players to acclimate to the changes. Couple that with the fact that a rookie quarterback will be running the offense, and the team could see major growing pains this year.

2. Injuries

Unfortunately, injuries are a part of the game in the NFL. The sad part is that you never know when or who they're going to hit. With Manuel already having a minor knee procedure done, this is something to watch out for with the Bills.

1. Schedule

Stew Mine - USA TODAY Sports

Most teams don't like their scheduling. Buffalo, though, doesn't have a pretty schedule this year. Besides facing the Patriots twice, they must also face the NFC South and the AFC North. Those two divisions boast teams that are going to be prominent figures in both the NFC and AFC playoff races. Buffalo also has to play the Kansas City Chiefs this year, who look to be much improved with Andy Reed and Alex Smith.
