Colin Kapeernick, Anquan Boldin Developing Incredible Chemistry
It didn’t even take one half of football for the San Francisco 49ers to realize that they got an absolute steal when they brought Anquan Boldin to town.
Boldin reeled in a go-ahead touchdown in the second quarter, but he has made his presence felt in nearly all assets of the game. Known as one of the best run-blocking wide receivers in the NFL, Boldin meshes so well with a run-heavy San Francisco offense. With established running back Frank Gore and a mobile Colin Kaepernick in the backfield, the 49ers ask for their receivers to do more blocking than the average team does.
Oddly enough, the read-option offense that landed the 49ers in the Super Bowl last year has seemed to go by the wayside for Jim Harbaugh‘s club. In fact, a bigger load has been placed on Kaepernick, who has come out firing against a Green Bay Packers‘ defense that he shredded in last year’s NFC playoffs with both his arm and his feet.
Boldin caught four touchdowns last postseason, so he obviously has the ability to get open down the field. In addition, he’s also such a gifted blocker than he can turn around and keep opposing defenders from making tackles — this is not a trait to take lightly. Long story short; the 49ers are already reaping the benefits of bringing in a versatile wide receiver like Boldin.
