Mike Wallace was the Miami Dolphins‘ top free agent signing this offseason, but he’s already giving Miami fans a reason to dislike him.
The Cleveland Browns were simply no match for the Dolphins on Sunday as the hometown ‘Phins capitalized on the Browns’ inexperience with a 23-10 victory. However, those who watched the game had to notice Wallace’s quiet afternoon as the high-priced wide receiver caught just one pass for 15 yards. This is the same Wallace who made an NFL All-Pro team in 2011 and was given a five-year $60 million contract this offseason.
You’d think that a veteran wide receiver like Wallace would simply move on to the next game and focus on the Dolphins’ win, but that was hardly the case on Sunday. Instead, Wallace offered up this gem to Miami reporters when he was asked about making just one play for a mere 15 yards:
“Ask coach not my game plan.”
That’s not what you want to hear from your supposed franchise player if you’re the Dolphins. This quote is especially interesting since Wallace started the post-game chatter by saying “I don’t feel like talking.”
A fringe team like Miami can’t afford to have it’s top offensive weapon getting upset with the playbook just one week into the season. This is the time when second-year head coach Joe Philibin needs to take Wallace aside, because this if this pouting becomes a trend then the Dolphins are doomed.
