The New Orleans Saints have the best tight end in the NFL in Jimmy Graham and there is reason to be very excited about him this season. Graham is opening the season with a clean bill of health and frankly there is no one in the NFL that can cover him. Also, this is the last year of Graham’s rookie contract so he will bring it every game as he will be looking for a big payday in his contract year.
Furthermore, with Sean Payton back, the Saints’ offense will be one of the best in the NFL and Graham will be the primary benefactor. I would not be surprised if Graham set career highs across the board and set the record for most receiving yards in a season for a tight end.
Graham is one of the most athletic tight ends we have seen in a long time and at 6-foot-7, 265 pounds this former basketball player has a wide range and can make any catch. Last season Graham caught 85 receptions for 982 yards and nine touchdowns, and that was considered a down year for him. However, Graham admitted to playing through wrist injuries for the entire season. Since then Graham has had wrist surgery and is completely healthy.
Graham is a very tough player and this season his numbers should be similar or will exceed his 2011 stat line of 99 receptions, 1,310 yards, and 11 touchdowns. I would expect a monster season from Graham and I think he could easily go for 100+ receptions, 1400 yards, and 15 touchdowns; he is that good.
The Saints will have to find some money to pay Graham because his next contract will probably be worth upwards of $10 million a year. With general manager Mickey Loomis running the show, I think the Saints will get a deal done and Graham will be a Saint for a very long time. This season Graham will be a big part of the Saints’ success and should help the team return to the playoffs.
