Nick Hayden and George Selvie Produce for the Dallas Cowboys Defense

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Two previously unknown men are getting a second chance and they are embracing every second of it. The Dallas Cowboys have given Nick Hayden and George Selvie the opportunity of a lifetime and these two men are making the most of it. Both were inserted into the starting lineup because of injury but both of these guys played like they have been the starters for their whole career.

Hayden is playing at defensive tackle for the injured Jay Ratliff. We are going to see a lot of Hayden this season, especially since Ratliff is going to be out until at least week six. I think Hayden did an excellent job Sunday night against the New York Giants. Hayden did a nice job pressuring Eli Manning and he did excellent against the run. Hayden forced one of the six turnovers that they Giants had. With Hayden in the lineup, I think the interior of the Cowboys’ defense will be solid.

George Selvie is doing an amazing job filling in while Anthony Spencer is sidelined. We should see Spencer return soon, but Selvie is still going to see his share of playing time. When Selvie first took the field in the preseason, I had no idea who he was but he is starting to become a household name. It seems like Selvie is always around the ball carrier or pressuring the quarterback. When Spencer returns, the Cowboys should be confident in the amount of quality depth that they have at defensive end.
