Von Miller Receives Traffic Citation as Tailspin Continues

Von Miller

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

After the NFL slapped him with a six-game suspension, star outside linebacker Von Miller seemed like a safe bet to stay out of trouble. Unfortunately for the Denver Broncos, that hasn’t been the case.

According to CBS4 in Denver, Miller was cited last week for driving with a suspended license and speeding during a traffic stop near his home in Arapahoe County. Miller was not arrested, but received a citation for the violation and was forced to concede driving duties to his father, who was in the passenger seat during the stop.

(I’d also like to point out the fact that his father was enabling him. Willingly letting your son drive on a suspended license is a sign of terrific parenting skills.)

Miller is currently serving a six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. The suspension was originally for four games, but was extended after extra evidence of wrongdoing cropped up during the appeal process.

On top of substance abuse issues, Miller was arrested in August after failing to appear for a court date following another traffic stop that included charges of careless driving, driving without a license and proof of insurance. Put simply, Miller doesn’t appear to have any respect for the rules of the road.

When not suspended, Miller is one of the best pass rushers in professional football. With his recent rash of off-field issues, though, the former first-round pick has engulfed himself in unnecessary negative attention. If the tailspin continues, the Broncos may be forced to take their own measures to ensure their Pro Bowl linebacker makes it back to the field in the near future.

The Broncos might want to consider providing Miller with an around-the-clock personal driver before he finds a way to get himself suspended for the entire 2013 season – or worse.

Miller is nowhere near Aaron Hernandez’ level, but the self-destructive intent is crystal clear.
