Oakland Raiders Rumors: Mark Sanchez to sign in 2014?

Assuming he undergoes shoulder surgery as expected, Mark Sanchez’ time with the New York Jets will be at an end. That means that, at the end of the 2013 campaign, the four-year starting quarterback will hit the open market.

Once he splashes into the free agency pool, one team that could be interested in Sanchez is the Oakland Raiders.

At this moment, they boast a quarterback situation that is arguably the worst in the NFL.

Even after Terrelle Pryor’s surprisingly-strong performance in Week 1, his lack of passing prowess will eventually catch up to him as defenses figure out how to slow him down on the ground. As soon as his ability to run is nullified, his biggest weakness is forced to the forefront.

Behind him on the depth chart is Matt Flynn, who has lost two starting jobs in the last two years. It’s becoming crystal clear that he’s nothing more than a backup who had one great game, and the Raiders know he’s not a long-term option.

While I’ve been a big fan of Matt McGloin since he joined the Raiders as an undrafted rookie free agent, there’s currently no reason to believe that he can start for Oakland for an extended period of time. The other rookie quarterback, Tyler Wilson, has been a major disappointment thus far and might never develop into an NFL-caliber passer.

More than likely, the Raiders are going to have a Top 5 pick when the 2014 NFL Draft rolls around next May. Assuming that’s the case, they’ll likely spend their first-round pick on a quarterback. No matter who they draft (Teddy Bridgewater maybe?), the rookie will likely get the starting nod from Day 1, but the Raiders will need a competent passer in that No. 2 role.

As long as they can get him at a reasonable price, the Raiders would be smart to sign Sanchez as an experienced veteran backup who can help the incoming rookie learn the game. He wouldn’t be much of an option to start, but would provide a better fallback plan than most of the veterans you’ll typically find via free agency.

Let’s also remember that the Raiders have a thing for former USC quarterbacks. They’ve already employed Matt Leinart and Carson Palmer in recent years. Third time is a charm, right?

The hard truth is that Sanchez might never be a starter in the NFL again. After four disappointing seasons with the Jets, the rest of the league is well aware of his physical – and mental – limitations.

Signing with the Raiders would be an ideal situation for Sanchez, who could collect a check, hold a clipboard and keep himself out of spotlight. At this point in his career, that might be the best gig he can get.

Still hatin I see. You just don’t get it do you? TP will be our QB for the next 10 plus years. Teddy Bridgewater won’t come anywhere near Oakland except as an opponent. The Raiders are going to build around TP. Now, TP will make mistakes, which is understandable. But he will quickly learn from them. He’s only about to make just his 3rd career start!

Also, TP has not and will not have a problem throwing the football, in fact he has looked damn good, and will only get better going forward. You really should just go away. As you can see, look at this comment section, no one would miss you, save a minimum few. And neither would I. I just have an uncontrollable urge to repond to idiot quotes, articles, and comments. I’ve been tellin people like you, (some saying TP would never be an NFL QB and a wasted draft pick) since TP was drafted that the Raiders just got a Bo Jackson kind of talent at QB. He was a top 5 small forward out of high school. He would compare to Andre Igudola of the NBA. That said, you obviously can’t project talent AT ALL since you’re missing so grossly on a crazy talent like TP. With TP the Raiders will regain their swag. Teams will no longer laugh when the Raiders get off the bus! And most importantly, when they get on the field. GO RAIDERS!!!!!!

We have made that mistake with both Palmer and Leinart, there won’t be a third time you fool.

It’s not even week two yet, we have a promising signal caller in TP and despite trying to knock him down a few pegs by not giving him AND his work ethic the respect it deserves is a hollow attempt to jump on the mainstream media bias of ALWAYS discrediting a storied franchise on the mend.

Second, about those ‘four disappointing seasons with the Jets, the rest of the league is well aware of his physical – and mental – limitations.’ Yes, and i’m sure they are also aware of the fact he took the Jets to the AFC Championship game two consecutive years in a row joining Ben Rapelisberger as the only two QB’s in NFL history to do it in their first two seasons…sooooooo I don’t think I could classify his tenure as a complete disappointment but still the fact remains…this is not a very well thought out written account of reality.

Finally, how could ANYONE in the RAIDER NATION, let alone the sports community as a whole trust the disconnected, unverified viewpoint of a fucking ViQueens fan. Glad they gave you a chance to deliver some ‘news’ fella but all you did was squander that opportunity by putting this train wreck of an article together. Don’t quit your day job and if you still feel the need expose the world to your rotted views on the NFL, keep it to your pathetic non ring wearing team.

I read the Headline and that’s it but here is my take , Sanchez is going to the Browns or Vikings their Qb situation is a lot Worse than the Raiders !!! Pryor is OUR GUY YOUR CAN KEEP THE OTHER SHIT TO yourself !!
