Week 2 Upset Alert: Kansas City Chiefs Over Dallas Cowboys
Heading into week two, the Kansas City Chiefs are undefeated. Of course, that one win came against the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars, but it came pretty convincingly at a final score of 28-2. Their second matchup of the year will be a much tougher task as they take on the Dallas Cowboys.
Week one, the Cowboys defeated the New York Giants by forcing the G-Men to turn the ball over a whopping six times. While that sounds fairly impressive, you would have guessed the final score to be a bit more telling than 36-31, the final tally after the NFC East divisional rivals duked it out.
What do the Chiefs have to do in order to come away with a second victory against Dallas on Sunday? Well, to start with they have to begin the game efficiently. Playing at home, they will have the crowd on their side and the defense must begin the game fast and hungry.
If the defense can rattle Tony Romo a bit and force an errant pass or two, that will take care of the first step. Secondly, the Chiefs are going to have to limit their turnovers. With Alex Smith playing quarterback now, the Chiefs are in good hands with an experienced game-managing veteran.
Running the ball well should take first priority, offensively. To be able to get Jamaal Charles going early would do wonders for the Chiefs’ offense. Smith thrives in situations when he is given a solid run game, as he is more comfortable in that managing role rather than having the game placed on his shoulders.
The Cowboys come into every season with a lot of hype surrounding the team. This year, yet again, there are plenty giving them the title of an elite NFC team — if they can ‘put it all together.’ I’m not buying it, nor will I ever buy it when Romo is under center. The Chiefs have a new confidence at attitude about them with Andy Reid at the center of it all, and should fare better than most think in this one.
Kansas City has a great chance to upset the Boys this weekend. If they can limit turnovers, start fast on both sides of the ball and force Romo into bad decisions, they will come away with a victory.
