Buffalo Bills Regular Season Week 2: Carolina Panthers’ Greg Olsen is the Second Head Of Cerberus

Greg Olsen

Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports

Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing in at a solid 254 pounds, Carolina Panthers‘ star tight end Greg Olsen is one of the best at his position without the last name of Gronkowski. Every year after his rookie season, he has had no less than 40 catches, 400 receiving yards and five touchdown receptions, no matter who his quarterback is. Olsen started his career off with the Chicago Bears, and was acquired by the Panthers for a meager third round pick, which could be considered a huge coup for Carolina, as he’s done nothing but catch balls for them.

Like almost every other tight end over 6-foot-5 in the NFL, Olsen creates a huge mismatch, as he is too big for a safety or linebacker to cover alone. The Buffalo Bills luckily have a similar type tight end in Scott Chandler, as he has created massive mismatches since coming to Western New York against opposing team’s defenses. They also have a linebacker in Kiko Alonso that was brought in via this year’s NFL Draft, due to his abilities to cover tight ends effectively, not to mention how much this guy loves contact. If Olsen gets open early, expect quarterback Cam Newton to look his way virtually all day, as he has been Newton’s best friend in this offense since turned pro in 2011.

All and all, it should be interesting to see what Olsen does tomorrow and if the Bills can contain him, if not shut him down entirely.
