New Orleans Saints’ Jimmy Graham Has Monster Performance Against Tampa Bay

Rob Foldy-USA TODAY Sports

Coming away with a victory against a divisional opponent is a good thing. Coming away with that victory while hauling in 10 receptions for 179 yards and a touchdown is a great thing. Doing this while playing for a big contract next year is an even greater thing.

This is what the New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham did Sunday afternoon against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Tampa Bay. Graham was instrumental in helping Drew Brees and the rest of the Saints’ offensive unit move the ball Sunday afternoon against the Buccaneers. His only touchdown on the day came in the first quarter on a 56-yard pass that saw a wide open Graham catch the ball from Brees and essentially walk into the end zone.

In the final year of his contract and likely seeking a big payout at the end of the season, this is good news for New Orleans and their fans. Graham has shown us what he’s capable of doing and how he can be a match up nightmare for opposing defenses. Now, couple that with burning desire for a big contract next year, and that will translate into many more touchdowns, first downs and fantastic, fan pleasing catches.

I think it’s unlikely that the Saints organization would be willing to let him walk and go to another team, and he seems to be pretty happy playing in New Orleans. Although his asking price may be a little high when the time comes, it would be foolish to not pay him and let such a strong, athletic tight end get away from them. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, such as career ending injuries or some kind of innate urge to not play for New Orleans, it’s likely Graham will be a member of the Saints for many years to come.
