New England Patriots: Alfonzo Dennard Could Still Be In Big Trouble After Court Date

After New England Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard admitted in court today that he had violated his probation, it could have been disastrous for the team.

While everything seems okay for him for the month of September, he still has a court date on October 8 regarding his recent DUI charge. In addition to that, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell could always hand down a suspension to Dennard if it was deemed that he violated the league’s personal conduct policy.  If that weren’t enough, he still has his probation revocation hearing to deal with in December.

Perhaps the most disturbing development to come out of the hearing today was that he admitted only having two beers four and a half hours before driving.  That was clearly not the case as common sense would tell you that he drank much more than that.

According to multiple reports, his blood-alcohol level was above .10 despite giving an inadequate breath sample during his breathalyzer test. If he only drank two beers hours before he got behind the wheel, why would his blood-alcohol level be so high?

The last thing you want to do if you are Dennard is to lie about your situation in court. If you are already deemed to be on thin ice in the Nebraska justice system, the judge could take your statement as being arrogant, thereby suggesting a more harsh sentence when the time comes.

Also, lying in court is considered punishable by law, otherwise known as perjury.  If it can be proven that it is a false statement, he would face discipline for that as well.

Either way, he will need to be on his best behavior between now and October to avoid facing serious discipline.  Even then, it may be too late since he has officially admitted to the court that he violated his probation.  In the meantime, he will continue to man the number two cornerback spot on the team opposite of Aqib Talib.
