It’s over. Done. Finito.
Tim Tebow isn’t going to be in a Jacksonville Jaguars uniform this year or next or ever.
I thought we were done with this when Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell famously said in his opening press conference the famous line “Even if he’s released” in reference to questions of whether he would be interested in acquiring Tebow. His answer was a resounding no, yet there is a small group of Tebow fan boys who just simply will not take no for an answer.
This group of fans organized a rally on Monday at EverBank Field to call for the Jaguars to sign Tebow, but to call this rally poorly attended would be a generous overstatement. In fact members of the media covering the “rally” outnumbered the people out there to support their favorite quarterback. Their message was delivered to no one, as the Jaguars players and brass remain out in California this week to prepare for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.
The truth is that there is not overwhelming fan support for the Jaguars to sign Tebow, no matter how bad the offense looked the first two weeks. Rational Jaguars fans understand that this team is undergoing a total rebuild and the results are not going to be favorable at first. While the people who want Tebow in Jacksonville suggest his presence can’t hurt, hence the catchphrase “Why Not?”, the truth is that the sideshow that comes with him would do nothing but stunt the growth of the very young Jaguars roster.
There is always going to be the irrational few who refuse to grip reality, but for the rational folks out there it is simply time to stop talking about Tebow ever putting on a Jaguars uniform.
