There’s no such thing as an easy game in the NFL. Sure, there are some teams much weaker than others, but nothing comes easy on the gridiron. However, that doesn’t mean the Minnesota Vikings don’t have a golden opportunity to get a much needed win in week three. The Cleveland Browns are coming to town and they’ll be down their regular starting quarterback and now their best running back following Wednesday’s shocking trade. To make things worse for the Browns, it’s also the Vikings home opener.
With all that being said, Minnesota will clearly be favored to take care of business and get their first win of the year. Normally, fans will take a win any way they can get one, but this Sunday, they’ll be looking for noticeable improvement in their Vikings. The main player fans will have their eyes on? Christian Ponder.
It’s nearly a given what Adrian Peterson is going to bring to the table, so this game will be all about Ponder and his receivers. It hasn’t been the greatest of starts for the passing game, but there were steps taken in week two. Greg Jennings seems to be slowly getting on the same page with his new QB and Jerome Simpson is playing his best ball since coming to Minneapolis in 2012. But week three is about getting everyone involved.
Jarius Wright and Kyle Rudolph both need to see regular targets and it wouldn’t hurt anything if Peterson got a few more looks out of the backfield. The time is now for the Vikings’ passing game to evolve. It’s been the clear weakness in the team for two years now and if the receiving game doesn’t start cooking soon, the Vikings won’t have much of a shot at making it back to playoffs.
