Sure, those who remember Donovan McNabb for puking in the only Super Bowl Game of his career, likely don’t think he should be a part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. However, NFL fans will be surprised to know that McNabb’s career numbers are actually better than a trio of quarterbacks — Jim Kelly, Dan Marino, Warren Moon.
Just like McNabb, none of those three Hall of Fame quarterbacks have hoisted a Lombardi Trophy. Despite that fact, each signal-caller has worked his way into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Philadelphia Eagles‘ hostile fan base may have ran the Eagles’ quarterback out of town prematurely, and if McNabb doesn’t get into the Hall then those incredibly brutal fans should take most of the blame.
For starters, the postseason treated McNabb pretty well as he finished his career with more postseason victories (nine) than Marino and Moon, and has just as many playoff wins as the infamous Kelly. So, before you say how awful the Eagles’ leader was in the clutch, take a look at the numbers.
In addition, McNabb was a trendsetter in the sense that he showed the NFL that a black quarterback didn’t have to be a run-first player. Although Moon is credited with this as well, the Philadelphia icon forced the bigoted fans to put a sock in it, too.
McNabb will always be remembered for not bringing the Eagles their first Lombardi Trophy, yet that doesn’t mean he should be snubbed from the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
