New York Giants Will Still Make Playoffs This Season Despite 0-2 Start

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

According to NFL statistics, teams that start 0-2 have a less than 15 percent chance of making the playoffs that season. However, not only do I think the current 0-2 New York Giants will make the playoffs this year, but they will even comeback to win their division.

Here’s why. First of all, have you seen the Giants division this year? The NFC East is insanely weak this year. Who is honestly going to contend for first with the Giants this season? The Dallas CowboysPhiladelphia EaglesWashington Redskins?

All four teams do not play defense very well, and that’s an understatement. What is actually scary is that the Giants may be the best on the defensive side of the ball in that division.

On offense, when Eli ManningVictor CruzHakeem Nicks and David Wilson are all on their game, the only team that can remotely compete with them offensively is the Cowboys with Tony RomoDez BryantMiles Austin and DeMarco Murray.

With the Eagles having a new head coach and learning a new offensive system and with Redskins QB Robert Griffin III not 100 percent after his serious ACL injury from last season (will he ever be at full strength again?), both teams do not compete offensively with the Giants when they are firing on all cylinders.

Now, some of you are probably saying “well, the Giants have been way too inconsistent this season on both sides of the ball.”

One thing, it’s only been two games; and another thing, you want to talk about inconsistency? Who is more inconsistent than the Cowboys, Eagles and Redskins? Not the Giants. You may think the Giants have played poorly in the first two weeks of the season, but the fact of the matter is they are only one game out of first behind the Cowboys, who frankly just aren’t that good.

The Giants played horribly against the Cowboys in Week 1 and turned the ball over six times, yet they were still in a position to come back and win the game late in the fourth quarter. The Giants did not win that game, but the fact that they almost pulled it off in a game they had absolutely no business winning says a lot about the Cowboys and their inconsistencies.

So what about the Eagles and Redskins, you ask? Well, the Eagles so far are 1-2 and have only beaten the Redskins, who are 0-2. I think I have proved my point.

So with all of that being said, plus the fact that the Giants started the season 0-2 in 2007 and went on to win the Super Bowl that year, I am fairly confident that the 0-2 Giants of this year can at least come back to make the playoffs as well.
