To answer the question in the headline, no. But that doesn’t mean we can’t discuss it right? I’m sure all of you reading this have seen the “30 for 30” and “A Football Life” series on ESPN. What I’m suggesting is to do a special on the rivalry between the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers. Of course, I have an idea that could even top that. Have Ray Lewis and Hines Ward tell their stories over the years in a round table-type discussion. This idea makes so much sense on so many different levels.
First of all, both guys are retired players that have made the transition to talking head TV analysts. From what I’ve seen, both guys are pretty good, although Lewis looked a little stiff at first. Secondly, these two guys were practically the faces of this “blood rivalry.” Sure, there are a lot of other guys who’ve been part of it like James Harrison, Terrell Suggs, Ben Roethlisberger, Joe Flacco, Ed Reed, Troy Polamalu, Ryan Clark, Derrick Mason and I could go on forever.
Lewis and Ward are both incredibly hated by the opposing cities, so it’s only natural that they would be the best guys to share their respective stories. Ward would probably still have some bad blood toward Lewis, as No. 52 knocked Ward out of what would be his last game against the Ravens. There was no flag on the play, but Lewis was fined after the game.
I think all of us could agree that this would make for really compelling television. Let’s make this happen people. Tell the networks, tell the newspapers, tell the internet, tell your friends, tell my dog, Arnold, tell the world. And of course, share this very article you’re reading now on social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.). Yes we can.
