New York Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie has developed into an excellent cornerback who can shutdown almost any wide receiver in the league. The best asset Cromartie possesses is his sheer size at 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, he is as big if not bigger than a lot of teams’ No. 1 wide receiver. While people will call his past character into question, it seems that he has grown up a great deal since joining the Jets. Who knows if it was him doing it or if head coach Rex Ryan played a hand in this? Either way, that is excellent news for the man off the field.
Cromartie will be likely covering Buffalo Bills star receiver, who caught the game winner last week, Stevie Johnson, who has had a knack of making Jets cornerbacks look lost in recent years. While he isn’t the fastest wide receiver in the league by a long margin, Johnson’s route running is nothing short of amazing, so he seemingly can get open even against the most athletic defensive backs. Last year, Johnson put on a receiving clinic against Cromartie as he had six catches for 111 yards.
All in all, it should be interesting to see how Cromartie plays against the Bills now that he is the No. 1 cornerback for the Jets, and to see if he actually gets action this week unlike the last two, as he’s only had two total tackles so far.
