LeSean McCoy Has Talent to Unseat Adrian Peterson As NFL’s Best Running Back

LeSean McCoy, in his fifth year in the league, is having a breakthrough season and one that has moved him to the top of the running back ranks. In fact, now that he is in an offensive scheme that is perfectly catered to his abilities, McCoy will unseat Adrian Peterson as the NFL‘s best RB for this season and beyond.

In the Philadelphia Eagles‘ loss on Thursday night, McCoy suffered what appeared to be an ankle sprain shortly before halftime after a defender fell on top of his foot. Though things seemed bleak for Eagles fans and McCoy fantasy owners alike, he eventually ran back onto the field as if he never left.

He recorded 92 of his 158 rushing yards after his return, including a 30-yard run in the third and a 41-yard run that was punctuated with a TD in the fourth.

On the season, McCoy has 395 rushing yards in three games, which leads the league. His average of 131.6 rushing yards per game also leads the league. Additionally, McCoy has six receptions for 119 yards, which includes a 70-yard catch he recorded in Week 2.

McCoy has already recorded two 150-plus yard rushing games this season, which is more than he previously had in his entire career. In the game that McCoy didn’t had 100-plus rushing yards, he recorded 114 receiving yards, the most in a single game in his career.

So while McCoy’s talent and explosiveness is enabling him to have a spectacular year, his numbers are helped by an offense that is specifically catered to his abilities. This combination of a perfect offense and McCoy’s natural abilities are going to help him rise to the top of the NFL running back ranks, and there is nothing Peterson can do to stop him.
