Miami Dolphins’ Ryan Tannehill Evolved In Win Against Atlanta Falcons

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

A one-yard touchdown lob pass to tight end Dion Sims with 38 seconds left in the game sealed the win for the Miami Dolphins and quarterback Ryan Tannehill over the Atlanta Falcons. This win moves Miami to 3-0 on the season as they are sitting on top of the AFC East with the New England Patriots.

However, the story of the game belongs to Tannehill, who seems to be evolving as a quarterback in his second year in the league. The Dolphins were down 20-10 in the third quarter of the game, but Tannehill was somehow able to keep his composure and lead a charge to defeat the Falcons. Last season seemed so long ago.

To make things even better, Tannehill had to suffer through two key drops by Lamar Miller and Charles Clay on the final drive of the game. He was able to keep his head up, persevere and get the job done. Although he had one interception in the game, Tanneill was 24-for-35 for 236 yards with two touchdown passes.

Important drives like these is what the Dolphins are going to need to win a lot of games this season and possibly go deep into the playoffs.

Tannehill’s ability to spread the ball around to his receivers and get a decent running game from Miller was also mildly important. He did not have a receiver who was over 100 yards for the day. Brian Hartline had four catches for 56 yards and a touchdown to lead Miami.

Games like this is what Miami needs for the future. Winning this game against a tough Falcons team is a huge confidence booster going into a Monday Night game against the New Orleans Saints next week. That will be a test for Tannehill and the Dolphins’ defense as well.
