NFL Rumors: Could Brett Favre make a return?

Brett Favre

Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

You thought you’d never hear that name again, huh?

Brett Favre, one of the NFL’s greatest quarterbacks of all time, is apparently staying busy during retirement. According to his agent, the future Hall of Famer is working out hard and has maintained terrific football shape since hanging up his cleats.

“His arms look like a blacksmith’s arms,” Bus Cook said. “He rides a bike probably 30-50 miles a day. He runs four or five miles a day. He’s coaching at the high school and they’re undefeated. He loves it. His body far is 7.5 percent and he weighs 225 pounds. He could play today, better than a lot of them out there today.”

Don’t start thinking that Cook is starting any rumors of a un-retirement from Favre, though. According to the former Green Bay Packers great’s agent, the 44-year old gunslinger has no plans of suiting up again. He’s simply making observations and burning current NFL quarterbacks in the process.

Don’t worry Blaine Gabbert – I won’t speculate on who he’s talking about.

Still, it’s intriguing to hear that Favre, who last played with the Minnesota Vikings in 2010, is staying in NFL shape. What’s even more intriguing is that his agent felt it necessary to say anything in the first place.

“Today, he could play today,” Cook said. “I saw him the other day. He’s in the best shape I’ve ever seen him in, physically.”

Cook is no stranger to starting rumors, but this one seems too farfetched to hold any water.

A return is about as realistic as Darren McFadden taking over as the Oakland Raiders’ quarterback, but a Favre comeback would certainly be an interesting storyline. The Jacksonville Jaguars might even be tempted to pick up the phone if their pitiful quarterback play continues…
