The Kansas City Chiefs are 3-0 for the first time in 16 seasons. Obviously, the addition of head coach Andy Reid, quarterback Alex Smith and the continued use of a 3-4 defense are all reasons for the early success this year. With that being said, what is one huge reason why the Chiefs are undefeated through three games?

The defense is playing out of their minds in the early going of the 2013 NFL season. Several players, such as linebacker Justin Houston and defensive tackle Dontari Poe, have really stepped their game up. As good as the players have  performed on a consistent basis, it is actually the score defense that needs to be highlighted.

Kansas City’s defense has allowed an incredible 11.3 points per game. It is true that holding the Jacksonville Jaguars, a team that will most likely not win a game this season, to two points certainly helped the statistic. However, the two other teams they faced were the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles, which means the numbers are definitely no joke. The Cowboys are averaging a whopping 27.6 points per game while the Eagles have put up 26.3 points per contest.

The Chiefs will be put to the test on Sunday when the face the Denver Broncos high-flying offense. The Broncos have put up an earth-shattering 42.3 points per game this season. That means the league’s top scoring offense will take on the second-best scoring defense. Obviously, it is a matchup that will not disappoint.
