Power Ranking The 3-0 NFL Teams
Power Ranking The 3-0 NFL Teams
Three weeks of the NFL season are in the books. This is the time of the year that we first start to get an idea of who the real contenders are. There are some teams that have stood out above all others this season, earning themselves an unblemished record after three games.
Getting wins in the NFL is really tough. Sometimes you can go out and dominate an opponent, but more often than not it comes down to a few bounces or big plays that make the difference between winning and losing. Especially this early in the season, you can have some teams find their way to wins that might not be able to keep up the pace as the year goes on.
Then, of course, there are some teams on this list that we all know are for real. Despite the league's attempts to create parity, there are still some teams that are head and shoulders better than the rest of the league. That may change at some point due to injuries or something like that, but at this point the cream is really starting to rise to the top of the NFL.
The teams that made this list have all had a great start to their seasons, but the most interesting thing to me as I put it together is that most of them still have serious questions they need to answer. Some have played above expectations, some have a win or two that wasn't very impressive and some just plain old haven't looked good despite finding ways to win.
So far it's been a really interesting NFL season. This is how the undefeated teams stack up after the first three weeks of the year.
7. Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins have been impressive so far this year, earning wins against playoff contenders like the Indianapolis Colts and the Atlanta Falcons. They have a good defense and an improving young quarterback. This ranking could be too low, but they just aren't as proven of a commodity as some of the other teams coming up.
Every year we see one young team catch fire early on just to run out of steam by the time winter rolls around, and the Dolphins are the best candidate for that honor this year.
6. Kansas City Chiefs
I've been on the Kansas City Chiefs bandwagon for a while this year. They were too good to finish with just two wins last year. This season, they fixed their two major needs at quarterback and coach. Now that Andy Reid and Alex Smith are on the same page, the wins have started to come early on. They're a true playoff contender in a relatively weak AFC.
5. New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are the most confusing undefeated team in the league right now. They haven't beaten any good teams, their offense is a shell of its former self and Tom Brady might be showing some signs of decline.
On the other hand, they have an underrated defense and eventually will get Rob Gronkowski and Danny Amendola back. Those two could drastically change the look of the offense. I have talked myself into anything from an 8-8 finish to a 12-4 finish for this team. If nothing else, the next few weeks are going to be must-watch for the Patriots.
4. New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints have been on a mission to take revenge against the rest of the league after their lost year last season. Now that Sean Payton is back calling plays, they have one of the best teams in the league again. I would actually love to put them higher, I think they're a real Super Bowl contender, but you can't discount them almost losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2.
3. Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears have been really impressive this year, especially quarterback Jay Cutler. Cutler, who was constantly under-performing in Chicago, has looked really comfortable under new head coach Marc Trestman.
2. Seattle Seahawks
Man, the Seattle Seahawks have looked good this year. They're not only winning with what might be the best defense of the modern era, they're putting up points on offense too. Russell Wilson out-dueled Colin Kaepernick in Week 2 and took care of business in their two other wins.
You can throw out they're dominating win over the Jacksonville Jaguars because the Jaguars are terrible. But, now that the Carolina Panthers went out and shellacked the New York Giants this past week, barely beating them on the road is starting to look like a quality win for the Seahawks.
1. Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos have been hands-down the best team in the NFL this year. Peyton Manning is having his best year ever and his weapons have been every bit as explosive as we thought they would. The defense could use a little improvement, which they will get when Von Miller gets back on the field, but if Manning and the offense keep rolling it won't matter how the defense plays.
