Peyton Manning Overwhelms Philadelphia Eagles Defense

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

It was one long and painful afternoon for the Philadelphia Eagles defense. That is because Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos moved and scored the ball at will in a blowout victory over the Eagles. As dangerous and incredible as Manning is this was an utterly embarrassing performance by the Eagles defense.

On many occasions Manning didn’t even have to work for yards. Receivers were running wide open all over the football field. Coupled with that the pass rush failed to get home again on Sunday it what has been a disappointing season so far for the men up front.

Nothing went right on the day for the defense. It seemed like whatever Manning wanted he could get. There were a stretch of plays in the game where the Broncos marched all the way down the field for a score and never even saw a third down situation. That is because Manning converted on every second down on his way to what had to be one of the easiest scoring drives of his career. Remarkable stuff.

We are seeing true greatness at the quarterback position from Manning. At age 37 he is playing the best stretch of football in his career, and I am not sure it is even close. The Eagles fell victim to that greatness Sunday.

The defense was exposed in every sense of the word. I expected them to give up points and yards, but this surpassed even my wildest nightmares about how ugly a game this could turn into.

It is time to move forward for the Eagles. The one positive to look at is that all of their losses have come against AFC opponents. They now face their division rival New York Giants. If they Eagles want any chance at still winning this division and sneaking into the playoffs they have to forget about this game and fast and start a winning streak in Met Life Stadium.
