Tampa Bay Buccaneers Rumors: Substance Abuse to Blame for Josh Freeman’s Struggles?
This season has been a complete train wreck for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and specifically for Josh Freeman. The quarterback’s season seemed doomed for failure from the moment that rumors of him and Greg Schiano being at odds emerged. Freeman then proceeded to lose his captain status with the Bucs and was late for a team photo shoot. Still, he remained the starting QB. That was until this past week, when he was benched for rookie Mike Glennon.
Things have gotten uglier and uglier ever since. There have been more rumors of Freeman avoiding the media and that he’ll be deactivated for the remainder of the season. But after everything that’s happened, we still don’t know why? What’s at the root of all these problems for the QB? Now, it looks like there might be an answer.
According to reports, Freeman is currently in stage one of the NFL‘s drug program. This means that he’s subject to random testing, but that he’s not yet in danger of being suspended. There’s no word at this time as to what drug or substance the QB is potentially struggling with.
If indeed it is revealed that Freeman has a drug problem of some sort, it would really shed light on why things have come unraveled so fast in Tampa.
One thing seems almost certain at this point, and that’s that the QB has taken his last snap under center as a member of the Bucs. Hopefully his issues aren’t rooted in drug abuse and he can get back on the path to success soon. But given what we know so far, it seems likely that substance abuse is playing a part in Freeman’s current free fall. If that is the case, fans will have to hope the league’s drug program works as it’s designed to.
