Cary Williams Failing To Make An Impact For Philadelphia Eagles
When Cary Williams was brought in and officially became a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, he was billed as a feisty corner that makes a lot plays on the ball. Aside from brief flashes in Week 1, this has not been seen.
After a very strong debut, Williams has really struggled in the secondary. The Eagles’ defense has been awful so far this year, and Williams and the secondary are a major culprit. Williams is not playing well in coverage and his supposed strong suit of tackling the ball carrier has been a weakness of his so far this season.
Believe it or not, the Eagles are on pace to be worse defensively this year than last year. Maybe we should have seen this coming. Last year, Williams didn’t grade out as a particularly great corner. However, he at least made plays and impacted games that way. That’s not happening so far in midnight green.
There is still a lot of season left. Hopefully, Williams gets his act together and starts playing with the passion, attitude and desire fans are used to from him. Right now, it just looks like he is going through the motions out there.
To be fair, the entire secondary has struggled. Williams seems to be the one that the corner offenses are picking on though. Bradley Fletcher has actually held his own on the other side at corner, not giving up many completions. Williams has to snap out of this funk he is in.
Hopefully, it starts Sunday against the hated New York Giants in what is a pivotal game for the Eagles. We all know savvy veteran Quarterback Eli Manning is going to pick on the corner if he sees any weakness in his game. It is time for Williams to put up or shut up.
