Heading into their Week 5 showdown, the Baltimore Ravens and the Miami Dolphins find themselves coming off of disappointing losses from Week 4 and still have a long list of injuries that could affect the outcome of the game. Here is the entire list of injuries the Ravens face currently:
Defensive lineman Terrence Cody is battling a nagging knee injury and is once against listed as doubtful along with rookie center Ryan Jensen (foot). The rest of the Ravens injury report includes nine players that find themselves under the “questionable” designation.
Linebacker Arthur Brown continues to battle a nagging shoulder injury. Wide receivers Marlon Brown and Brandon Stokley are both dealing with thigh issues. No. 3 running back Shuan Draughn continues to have his high ankle sprain hamper him. Linebacker Albert McClellan is dealing with shoulder problems.
Defensive lineman Marcus Spears has a knee injury. Wide receiver Deonte Thompson is battling some concussion issues from a brutal hit he took in Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills. The two big standouts on this list are cornerback Lardarius Webb (thigh) and wide receiver Jacoby Jones (knee).
Jones suffered a torn MCL in Week 1 versus the Denver Broncos and returned to the practice field for the first time this week. In my eyes, it’s still too soon to rush Jones back into the lineup simply because the Ravens wide receivers and tight ends have struggled other than Torrey Smith. I expect Jones to be on the inactive list, but it hinges on the health of Thompson and Stokley as the injuries they are battling could linger on for some time.
For the Dolphins, they find themselves somewhat healthier than the Ravens. Cornerback Dimitri Patterson is out with a groin injury. Wide receiver Brandon Gibson (ankle), safety Don Jones (elbow), linebacker Jason Trusnik (rib) and outside linebacker and pass-rushing specialist Cameron Wake (knee) are all listed as questionable this week.
Cornerback Nolan Carroll (ankle), safety Chris Clemons (glute), linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (knee), linebacker Jonathan Freeney (shoulder), linebacker Koa Misi (shoulder) and defensive tackle Paul Soliai (knee) are all listed as probably for the Dolphins.
The biggest name on the list for the Dolphins is clearly Wake, as this pass rush and defense as a whole is completely different when he is absent. If Wake is able to go, look for this front seven of the Dolphins to get after left tackle Bryant McKinnie and open up more gaps on the interior portions of that Ravens offensive line for guys like Ellerbe to blitz up the middle.
We’ll see what decisions these two head coaches make come 11:45 a.m. ET on Sunday morning when the inactives are announced.
