The Atlanta Falcons haven’t exactly had the start they dreamt of having entering this season. Arguably an even better team than they were a year ago, Atlanta is puzzled at their 1-3 start and looking for answers as to who can fill in certain voids. Particularly at the running back position, Atlanta is hurting.
Jason Snelling and Jacquizz Rodgers have been satisfactory, but not nearly the productive back that Steven Jackson is. Jackson has been out after suffering a hamstring injury in week two and is officially out Monday night against the New York Jets. It looks like the Falcons will be riding Snelling and Rodgers at least another week.
After their battle with New York — which they better win if they have any sort of dignity left at this point — the Falcons have a bye week. Depending on how Monday’s game turns out, it may be coming at the best possible time. Actually, one could argue either way they are getting a much-needed break.
In week seven, the Falcons face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A league source told ESPN that Jackson’s target date was at minimum week seven. But, given the matchup against Tampa Bay, I don’t see any reason to rush back if I’m Jackson.
For fantasy owners, like myself, Jackson’s recovery might mean more. If you haven’t picked up Rodgers or Snelling yet, assuming they are available, I would do so if your league is deep enough. In any event, Jackson’s return is highly anticipated in both the real world and for his owners in the fantasy realm.
