Baltimore Ravens’ Win Over Miami Dolphins Could Have Huge Playoff Implications
The Baltimore Ravens‘ road victory over the Miami Dolphins was huge. This win could wind up paying huge dividends for the Ravens come playoff time, especially if the Ravens don’t win the AFC North and are fighting for a wild card.
The Denver Broncos are a juggernaut and look like a safe bet for the No. 1 seed right now. The Kansas City Chiefs are tied with the Broncos at 5-0, but unless they win 12 or 13 games, they’re not winning the division. We can probably pencil the Chiefs in for one of the wild card spots.
The New England Patriots are in first in the AFC East and will likely finish there barring something strange.
By my count that leaves one wild card spot open. The teams likely to be competing for the final spot would be the Dolphins, Titans, Texans, and the runner up for the AFC North. There are a few others like the Cleveland Browns and San Diego Chargers that I don’t think will be factors, but you certainly can’t write them off yet.
I know what some of you are saying: “It’s too early to talk about the playoffs.” Ridiculous I say. It’s never too early to talk playoffs, despite the fact that things can change in a few weeks. With wins already against the Dolphins and Texans, the Ravens would be in good shape for the wild card as they would have the head to head tiebreakers over those teams. Obviously it would be ideal to win the AFC North for a third year in a row, but it’s always good to have a back up plan just in case. It’s better to have the No. 6 seed instead of no seed. After all, the Ravens proved if you just get in the dance then you have a chance.
