Clay Matthews Out a Month With Thumb Injury; More Pressure Mounts on Aaron Rodgers

Clay Matthews

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers were dealt a blow on Monday after learning that Clay Matthews will miss at least month of action with a fractured thumb. The team knew Matthews had a fracture following Sunday’s win over the Detroit Lions, but it was initially thought he might be able to play through the injury. At this moment, Matthews is still undergoing testing to determine the exact amount of time he will be out. The bad news for Packers’ fans is that season-ending surgery is still a possibility.

“I’m hopeful it’s not season-ending. I think we’re all hopeful, but you have to get all the opinions and make sure you always do right by the player,” said head coach Mike McCarthy.

So it seems that Matthews missing a month could be best case scenario at this point. There aren’t any reports stating that he will play through the injury, so the four weeks on the shelf is in the middle of all the scenarios for the linebacker. Regardless, his loss is a big one for the Pack.

Through four games Green Bay is basically a middle of the road defensive team. The unit is giving up an average of 374 yards and 24 points per game. The Packers are currently ranked 22nd in the league with 12 sacks on the season and now they’ll be without their top pass-rusher.

All of this means one thing – more pressure will mount on Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay offense. The high powered unit will now be forced to make a few more plays each game and put up a few more points. With any other team, this would be a big concern, but not with Rodgers at the helm. The former MVP will be up to the task, but I’m sure Packers’ fans are still worried without their best defensive player.

Watch Fitzgerald Send Cardinals To NFC Title Game

I pronounce this the greatest game I've ever witnessed. There aren't enough words to describe the ebbs and flows that occurred during the fourth quarter of this NFC Divisional Playoff. Both teams should be proud of the way they played, but the Cardinals will be the ones moving on after this Larry Fitzgerald touchdown.

You have got to be kidding me! The Green Bay Packers sent the game to overtime with this insane Hail Mary completion. What are Patrick Peterson and Justin Bethel doing so deep in the end zone. This game has been absolutely insane.

Watch Cardinals' Palmer Throw Ugly Interception

For someone who played like a MVP all season long, Carson Palmer has looked anything but tonight against the Green Bay Packers. If he doesn't redeem himself in the fourth quarter, the No. 2 seed Arizona Cardinals will be sitting at home watching the playoffs with the rest of us next week.

Packers' Lacy Needs Oxygen After This Run

Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy doesn't look like he's missed any meals recently, if you catch my drift. Despite the extra weight he's carrying around these days, Lacy was able to bust out into the open field for this huge 61-yard run.
