New York Giants: Eli Manning Recognizes His Awful Play, Will it Change?

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY

You have probably heard the phrase “The NFC East is still wide open” thrown around quite a bit lately. Granted, it is a true statement. Mathematically, the New York Giants could still end up winning the division and by a large margin.

But, realistically? The Giants are all but toast at this point. At 0-5, New York looks miserable. Their defense couldn’t stop a five pound shih tzu from getting into the end zone at this rate and are giving up an average of 36.4 points per game through week five. While the defense has been awful, offensively they are just as bad.

Quarterback Eli Manning is having one horrendous season of his own behind an offensive line that probably could not block that same shih tzu that scored on the Giants defense earlier in this piece. Manning has thrown 12 interceptions and fumbled twice through five games.

After their week five loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, Manning talked about recognizing his play and improving upon it.

“I know I can play better,” he said. “Sometimes, things are going to go wrong, but you’ve got to make the best decision. Throw it away, take a sack. I know I can’t keep turning the ball over every time.”

The problem here, is that he’s already taking too many sacks. Obviously a lot of the blame comes from the offensive line, but Manning is correct in that he needs to recognize when he needs to take a sack or throw the ball away. Throwing 12 interceptions in five games doesn’t exactly spell ‘two-time Super Bowl champion.’ Whether or not his protection is sufficient, he can still control a few things.

Manning has to be better. It’s simple. If he’s not, the Giants are in for a very, very long year.

Eli Manning Has Interesting Reaction To Broncos' Super Bowl Win

Eli Manning was captured on video making an interesting face when the Denver Broncos cemented their Super Bowl 50 win. The Internet firmly believes Eli is upset that Peyton now has two rings just like he does, but this is simply an overreaction. Eli was clearly nervous throughout the game, and his odd facial expressions are more indicative of a sign of relief than anything else.
