Oakland Raiders Cut Matt Flynn, But People Still Think He Deserves a Job

The Oakland Raiders cut quarterback Matt Flynn today. Shocking. Flynn was beat out of the starting job by Terrelle Pryor this year and Russell Wilson last year. The Raiders and the Seattle Seahawks have paid Flynn over $14.5 million the last two years. $14.5 million because he had a great game as Aaron Rodgers‘ backup for the Green Bay Packers. This is mind blowing. The best part about all of this is people still think there are NFL teams that should sign him.

Who should sign Flynn? He was sent to two teams as the starting quarterback and got beat out both times. I would understand signing him as a backup quarterback, but as a starter? Not a chance.  Josh Freeman had a much more impressive resume and deserved another job. The key to Freeman was his resume and body of work. Freeman has had a lot more starts than Flynn and has shown some moments of brilliance.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out because quality quarterbacks in the NFL are rare, and I am sure there is a team out there that will give in to its fans and take a chance on Flynn. Whether that is a good idea or not is up to the team. If you really want to put it into perspective, Tim Tebow has had a more impressive body of work in the NFL than Flynn, and he has been unemployed since the last preseason game. Now that should be a red flag.
