Denver Broncos’ Champ Bailey is Key to a Deep Run
Champ Bailey has not played a meaningful game since the Divisional Round last year.
Denver Broncos fans are patiently awaiting the return of their star cornerback who hasn’t played a snap this season. However, in his absence, the Broncos have gone undefeated at 5-0 and it brings about an interesting thought.
I believe Bailey will be a key part in the Broncos’ deep run, if not an X-Factor. Denver has a pretty lousy pass defense, and having that veteran presence in the secondary will help in a lot of ways. For one, Bailey will be covering the star receiver on the opposing team, who will face one of the best cover corners in the league.
Secondly, his coverage can help keep the opposing quarterback in the pocket and allow the pass rush to create pressure, especially if Von Miller returns around the same time Bailey does. Imagine having a great corner covering your star wide receiver and having to worry about the pressure of Miller? Talk about scary.
Perhaps it is Bailey who could be the missing piece in that horrendous secondary. I mean, the secondary has held their own in his absence minus the game against the Dallas Cowboys, but having that veteran can provide a confidence boost in some of the younger guys who have trouble from time to time, especially if they can see how Bailey does his job in covering whatever part of the field or receiver that he is assigned to on each play.
Let’s also not forget how much of a game-changer he can be. Bailey has great skill to make plays and change the tide of a football game. It will be interesting to see how much of an impact he brings to the table. Having a 15-year vet on the field can certain make a team look a lot better, and if the Broncos are going to make this big run this season, Bailey appears to be the answer.
