Houston Texans Fans Take Dislike Of Matt Schaub Too Far In Sickening Incident
In a truly sickening story, Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub was berated by angry fans at his home Tuesday night.
According to CBS Houston, a group of angry Texans’ fans accosted the QB at his home and berated him for his poor play. Schaub was with his wife and children when the individuals arrived; one shouted insults while another reportedly took photographs of the NFL veteran and his family.
I hate to use the word “fan” to describe these ghouls, giving a bad name to the 99 percent of perfectly nice and law-abiding sports enthusiasts who don’t behave like disrespectful maniacs.
It’s been a rough few weeks for the QB, but not even the most inept play deserves anything approaching this level. The man is a human being and should be treated as one, pick-sixes aside. There is absolutely no way to justify this sort of behavior. It’s reprehensible and I truly hope the identity of these individuals is revealed and proper legal action is taken.
Secondly, I’m not completely sure what any die-hard fan could possibly hope to accomplish by taking time from their day to terrorize a local athlete. Schaub has struggled in recent weeks — how delusional must one be to believe that making a player fear for his family’s safety could possibly help the home team’s chance on Sunday?
It’s said that a bad apple ruins the bunch, and this is certainly an example. Some crazed sports fans are in dire need of a dose of perspective. If you want to make your voice heard, call a radio show, write a blog, show up on Sunday and boo, or even better — stop attending games if you’re that upset with the product on the field.
Sports are no life-and-death affair — they’re a form of entertainment, and should be treated as such. The fans responsible for this incident have unfortunately embarrassed their city, fan base and most importantly themselves.
