Extremely sad and disturbing news today regarding Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and his son today. According to multiple media reports, Peterson’s two year old son is in critical condition in a South Dakota after being beaten by the man dating the boy’s mother, reportedly 27 year Joseph Patterson.

Patterson has been arrested and charged with aggravated felony assault and battery of an infant, according to reports. The child has suffered severe head injuries. Needless to say, Peterson immediately left the Vikings to be with his son.

I am at a complete loss for words as to what type of disgusting, pathetic excuse for a human being would do this to a child, and I sincerely hope that Patterson gets everything that’s coming to him and much more.

I am not going to attempt to put any football spin on this article, other than to simply say that this is the type of incident that puts the unimportance of football in crystal clear perspective.

I know I can speak for everyone here at Rant Sports when I say that we all send our thoughts and prayers to Peterson, his son and their family, and we will all hope and pray for a speedy and full recovery for the child. No child or parent should ever have to go through a situation like this, and all we can hope for is that this situation ends as positively as possible.

A sad day for the Vikings family, and really for the entire NFL community. No one ever wants to hear about news like this, and we sincerely wish the best for Peterson and his son.
