One Player Who Needs to Provide More Production for Arizona Cardinals
Arizona Cardinals tight end Rob Housler missed the first two games of the 2013 NFL season with an ankle injury. The Cardinals felt confident they could weather the storm until he was able to suit up, which was mostly accurate as they went 1-1 over that span. However, now that Housler is back in action Arizona expects to see far more production out of the third-year player.
“We’re not clicking like we should,” Housler said, according to AZCardinals.com. “But we have been in practice hammering hard at it trying to get that trust that, this is what (QB Carson Palmer) is seeing, this is what I’m seeing and we’re on the same page.”
Housler has hauled in just two receptions for 36 yards. Granted, he has only been targeted seven times in three games but the expectations for him are that he must be more effective. The fact is Arizona needs him to take pressure off the wide receivers so that the offense can stretch the field more. It is something that must happen immediately with five games already in the record book.
“It hasn’t been a science lab or something where you are testing to see what works,” Housler told AZCardinals.com. “Obviously we aren’t doing what we need to be doing as an offense. … We have had success with multiple tight ends and we have had success in multiple receiver sets. We just want to be balanced and do what works.”
The Cardinals will have a couple of great tests on their schedule in their next two contests to see if the offense is finally clicking. Arizona will face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday and the Seattle Seahawks the following week. If Palmer and his receivers can get on track against these two outstanding defenses then they should be able to conquer anyone.
