Philadelphia Eagles’ DeSean Jackson In For a Battle Against Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Darrelle Revis
A football game is bigger than any two players on the field. The outcome to Sunday’s contest between the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be affected by many different facets of the game, however, all eyes will be on the most intriguing matchup on the field.
Eagles’ wide receiver DeSean Jackson has taken advantage of the opportunities that have presented themselves all year, catching passes for over 100 yards in three games, scoring a touchdown in each. In the other two games, however, against two of the better defenses in the league in the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs, he was nearly nonexistent. Jackson caught only five passes in those games combined, less than any other single game this season. He has proven in the past though, through big performances, that he loves and thrives in the spotlight. Matching up against the best cornerback in the NFL will definitely provide that.
Darrelle Revis was a highly coveted defensive piece that the Buccaneers landed through a trade. Prior to injury, he was the best defensive player in the league, bar none. Now, since returning and joining a new team, he is out to prove that he can still take the top receivers out of the game week after week. He hasn’t been challenged this season, as quarterbacks have made the decision to not throw in his direction much.
Philadelphia may not have the luxury of avoiding Revis, being that their receiving core is so thin and that Jackson is counted on so heavily for production. Jackson has the wheels to burn most cornerbacks at will, but matching up at the line with a bigger and stronger Revis may cause problems in staying on and completing routes. It is sure to be a back and forth battle all day, and whomever can get the better may decide which team gets the win at the end of the day.
