The Pittsburgh Steelers will have to play some good football on Sunday if they want to record their first win of the season. There are several areas that the team will need to excel in to win. With that being said, who is one player the Steelers must slow down if they want to be victorious against the New York Jets in Week 6?

After watching the Jets defeat the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football, there is no question in anyone’s mind that Pittsburgh must stop rookie quarterback Geno Smith in order to come away with the win. The fact that Smith has shown the ability to do a lot with very little pass attempts means that he has the potential to ruin opponents. Obviously, this is a huge concern for a winless Steelers team.

“We faced a lot of quarterbacks like that,” Steelers cornerback Will Gay said, according to Steelers.com. “We know we have to run to the ball, cover the receivers and when he breaks the pocket we all have to rally to him.”

“He is not making mistakes,” Gay added. “That’s what it comes down to. If you don’t turn the ball over, you don’t put your team in a bad situation. He isn’t turning the ball over and is making plays when necessary.”

There is no denying that it will take a total team effort in order to defeat New York. The Steelers must fire out of the gates as soon as the first ball is snapped, especially since they are coming off a bye week. It is important to set the tempo early and continue getting after Smith until the final whistle.

The Steelers have been good against the pass this season, which will certainly help them. However, they must also be aware of Smith’s ability to move the chains with his feet.
